3 For Herod, having seized John* bound him and put him in prison* on account of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother. 4 For John was saying to him: It is not allowed for you to have her. 5 And, wishing to kill him feared the crowd, since they held him as a prophet. |
17 For Herod himself sent for and seized John* and bound him in prison* on account of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, since he married her. 18 For John was saying to Herod: It is not allowed for you to have the wife of your brother. 19 And Herodias had it in for him and wished to kill him, and could not, 20 for Herod feared John, knowing him as a just and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him he was much perplexed, and he was hearing him with pleasure. |
19 But Herod the tetrarch, reproved by him concerning Herodias the wife of his brother and concerning all the wicked things that Herod had done, 20 added this also to them all, and shut up John* in prison.* |

22 After these things Jesus and his disciples
went into the Judean land, and there he spent time with them and baptized.
23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near
Salim, because there were many waters there, and they came to him and
were baptized.
24 For John
had not yet been cast into prison.
