33 See that you are alert, for you do not know when the season is. 34 It is as a man journeying who, having left his house and given his servants authority, to each his work, also commanded the doorman to stay awake. 35 So be awake, for you do not know when the lord* of the house is coming, whether evening or midnight or cockcrowing or early, 36 lest coming suddenly he should find you sleeping. 37 But what I say to you I say to all, be awake. |
{21.36a But be alert in every season....} 35 Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning, 36 and be like men waiting to receive their lord when he returns from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they might straightway open for him. 37 Blessed are those servants whom the lord* finds awake when he comes. Amen, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them recline, and will come up and minister to them. 38 If he should come in the second watch or in the third and find them so, blessed are they. |
