{13.1 On that day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea, 13.2a and so many crowds were gathered to him....} 18 But while he was walking around by the sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting about a casting-net into the sea, for they were fishers. 19 And he says to them: Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.* 20 But they,* straightway leaving the nets behind, followed him. {13.2b ...that having embarked onto a boat he* sat down, and the whole crowd was standing upon the beach.*} 21 And he passed on from there and saw two other brothers, Jacob [son] of Zebedee and John his brother in the boat with Zebedee* their father mending their nets, and he called them. 22 But they* straightway* left the boat and their father and followed him. |
{4.1a And again he began to teach* by the sea, and so great a crowd gathered to him....} 16 And while he was going about by the sea of Galilee he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting about in the sea, for they were fishers. 17 And Jesus said to them: Come after me, and I will make you to be fishers of men.* 18 And, straightway leaving the nets behind, they* followed him. {4.1b ...that having embarked onto a boat he* sat down at the sea, and the whole crowd were by the sea upon the land.*} 19 And he passed on a little farther and saw Jacob [son] of Zebedee and John his brother, and they were in the boat mending the nets, 20 and straightway* he called them. And they* left their father Zebedee* in the boat with the hirelings and went after him. |
1 But it happened that, when the crowd was pressing him and hearing the word of God, he himself was also standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats standing by the lake. But the fishers, having disembarked from them, were washing the nets. 3 But he* embarked onto one of the boats, which was of Simon, and asked him to put out a little away from the land,* And, having sat down, he was teaching* the crowds from the boat. 4 But when he ceased speaking, he said to Simon: Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch. 5 And Simon answered and said: Sir, we labored all night and took nothing, but upon your word I shall let down the nets. 6 And, having done this, they enclosed a great multitude of fish, and their nets were tearing. 7 And they motioned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them with the catch. And they came, and they filled both boats such that they were sinking. 8 But Simon Peter saw and fell at the knees of Jesus saying: Go away from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord. 9 For wonder held him fast and all those with him at the catch of fish that they took in, 10 and likewise also Jacob and John the sons of Zebedee, who were partners to Simon. And Jesus said to Simon: Fear not; from now on you will be catching men* alive. 11 And they brought the boats up on the land and left all and followed him. |

35 On the morrow again John was standing, and
two from his disciples.
36 And when he saw Jesus walking
about he says: Behold the lamb of God.
37 And the two disciples
heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
38 But Jesus turned and saw them following him and said
to them: What are you seeking? And they said to him: Rabbi, which is interpreted to
say teacher, where are you staying?
39 He says to them: Come and see. They went, therefore,
and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day.
It was about the tenth hour.
40 One of the two who heard from John and followed
him was Andrew the brother of Simon
Peter.
41 This man found first his own brother
Simon and says to him: We have found the messiah, which is interpreted
as Christ.
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said:
You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas, which is interpreted Peter.
43 On the morrow he wished to go out into
Galilee, and he found Philip. And Jesus
says to
him: Follow me. 44 And Philip was from Bethsaida,
from the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip finds Nathaniel and says to him: We have found
him of whom Moses, in the law, and the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph, who is
from Nazareth.
46 And Nathaniel said to him: Can anything good be from
Nazareth? Philip says to him: Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him and says about him:
Behold, truly an Israelite in whom there is no guile.
48 Nathaniel says to him: Whence do you know me?
Jesus answered and said to him: Before Philip called out to you I saw you, as you
were under the fig-tree.
49 Nathaniel answered him: Rabbi, you are the son of God.
You are the king of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said to him: Because I said to
you that I saw you under the fig-tree you believe? You shall see greater things than these.
51 And he says to me: Amen amen, I say to you: You
shall see heaven opened up and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the
son of man.

1 After these things
Jesus again made himself apparent to the
disciples upon the sea
of Tiberius. And he appeared thus.
2 There were together
Simon Peter
and Thomas called Didymus and Nathaniel from Cana in Galilee and
[the sons] of Zebedee
and another two from among his disciples.
3 Simon Peter says to them: I am going
fishing. They say to him: We also are going with
you. They went out and embarked onto
the boat, and on that
night they got nothing.
4 But when it was already becoming early
morning Jesus stood at the beach.
The disciples, however, did not know that it was Jesus.
5 Jesus therefore says to them: Children, you
do not have any fish, do you? They answered him: No.
6 And he said to them:
Cast the net
onto the right part of the
boat, and you will find them. They cast,
therefore, and were no longer capable of dragging it in from the multitude
of fish.
7 That disciple, therefore, whom Jesus loved
says to Peter: It is the Lord. Simon Peter, therefore, upon hearing that
it was the Lord, wrapped [himself] up in his outer clothing, for he was
naked, and cast himself into the sea.
8 But the other disciples came by the little
boat, for they were not a long way from the land, but about two hundred
cubits, pulling the net of fish.
9 When, therefore, they disembarked onto the
land, they see a charcoal fire laid, and fish placed upon it, and bread.
10 Jesus says to them: Bring [some] from the
fish which you have now gotten.
11 Simon Peter, therefore, went up and
dragged the net onto the land, brimming with one hundred fifty-three great
fish. And though there were so many the net was not
rent.
12 Jesus says to them: Come, have breakfast.
But none of the disciples dared to question him: Who are you? They knew that
it was the Lord.
13 Jesus comes and takes the bread and gives it
to them, and likewise the fish.
14 This is now the third [time] that Jesus
appeared to the disciples after being raised from the dead.
