20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came toward him with her sons, worshipping and asking* something from him.* 21 But he said to her: What do you wish? She says to him: Say that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your kingdom. 22 But Jesus answered and said: You do not realize what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am going to drink? They say to him: We are able. 23 He says to them: My cup you shall drink, But to sit at my right or my left, this is not mine to give, but rather it is for those for whom it has been made ready by my father. 24 And the ten heard this and became indignant concerning the two brothers. |
35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, journeyed toward him, saying to him:* Teacher, we wish you to do for us whatever we ask* you. 36 But he said to them: What do you wish me to do for you? 37 They said to him: Give us that we may sit, one at your right and one at your left, in your glory. 38 But Jesus said to them: You do not realize what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am drinking, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am being baptized? 39 They said to him: We are able. But Jesus said to them: The cup which I drink you shall drink, and the baptism with which I am baptized you shall be baptized with, 40 But to sit at my right or my left is not mine to give, but rather it is for those for whom it has been made ready. 41 And the ten heard this and began to get indignant concerning James and John. |
49 I came to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled. 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how held in I am until it is finished. |
