1 Καὶ εἰσελθὼν πάλιν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ δι᾿ ἡμερῶν ἠκούσθη ὅτι ἐν οἴκῳ ἐστίν. 2 καὶ συνήχθησαν πολλοὶ ὥστε μηκέτι χωρεῖν μηδὲ τὰ πρὸς τὴν θύραν, καὶ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον. 3 καὶ ἔρχονται φέροντες πρὸς αὐτὸν παραλυτικὸν αἰρόμενον ὑπὸ τεσσάρων. 4 καὶ μὴ δυνάμενοι προσενέγκαι αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον ἀπεστέγασαν τὴν στέγην ὅπου ἦν, καὶ ἐξορύξαντες χαλῶσι τὸν κράβαττον ὅπου ὁ παραλυτικὸς κατέκειτο. 5 καὶ ἰδὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πίστιν αὐτῶν λέγει τῷ παραλυτικῷ· Τέκνον, ἀφέωνταί σου αἱ ἁμαρτίαι. 6 ἦσαν δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων ἐκεῖ καθήμενοι καὶ διαλογιζόμενοι* ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις αὐτῶν· 7 Τί οὗτος οὕτως λαλεῖ; βλασφημεῖ· τίς δύναται ἀφιέναι ἁμαρτίας εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ θεός; 8 καὶ εὐθὺς ἐπιγνοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς τῷ πνεύματι αὐτοῦ ὅτι οὕτως διαλογίζονται ἐν ἑαυτοῖς λέγει αὐτοῖς· Τί ταῦτα διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν; 9 τί ἐστιν εὐκοπώτερον, εἰπεῖν τῷ παραλυτικῷ· Ἀφέωνταί σου αἱ ἁμαρτίαι, ἢ εἰπεῖν· Ἔγειρε καὶ ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ περιπάτει; 10 ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε ὅτι ἐξουσίαν ἔχει* ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἀφιέναι ἁμαρτίας ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, λέγει τῷ παραλυτικῷ· 11 Σοὶ λέγω, ἔγειρε, ἆρον τὸν κράβαττόν σου καὶ* ὕπαγε εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου. 12 καὶ ἠγέρθη καὶ εὐθὺς ἄρας τὸν κράβαττον ἐξῆλθεν ἔμπροσθεν πάντων, ὥστε ἐξίστασθαι πάντας καὶ δοξάζειν τὸν θεὸν λέγοντας ὅτι, Οὕτως οὐδέποτε εἴδομεν. |
17 Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν διδάσκων, καὶ ἦσαν καθήμενοι Φαρισαῖοι καὶ νομοδιδάσκαλοι οἳ ἦσαν ἐληλυθότες ἐκ πάσης κώμης τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ Ἰουδαίας καὶ Ἰερουσαλήμ· καὶ δύναμις κυρίου ἦν εἰς τὸ ἰᾶσθαι αὐτόν. 18 καὶ ἰδοὺ, ἄνδρες φέροντες ἐπὶ κλίνης* ἄνθρωπον ὃς ἦν παραλελυμένος, καὶ ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν εἰσενεγκεῖν καὶ θεῖναι αὐτὸν ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ. 19 καὶ μὴ εὑρόντες ποίας εἰσενέγκωσιν αὐτὸν διὰ τὸν ὄχλον ἀναβάντες ἐπὶ τὸ δῶμα διὰ τῶν κεράμων καθῆκαν αὐτὸν σὺν τῷ κλινιδίῳ εἰς τὸ μέσον ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ Ἰησοῦ. 20 καὶ ἰδὼν τὴν πίστιν αὐτῶν εἶπεν· Ἄνθρωπε, ἀφέωνταί σοι αἱ ἁμαρτίαι σου. 21 καὶ ἤρξαντο διαλογίζεσθαι* οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι λέγοντες· Τίς ἐστιν οὗτος ὃς λαλεῖ βλασφημίας; τίς δύναται ἁμαρτίας ἀφεῖναι εἰ μὴ μόνος ὁ θεός; 22 ἐπιγνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Τί διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν; 23 τί ἐστιν εὐκοπώτερον, εἰπεῖν· Ἀφέωνταί σοι αἱ ἁμαρτίαι σου, ἢ εἰπεῖν· Ἔγειρε καὶ περιπάτει; 24 ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε ὅτι ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐξουσίαν ἔχει* ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἀφιέναι ἁμαρτίας, εἶπεν τῷ παραλελυμένῳ· Σοὶ λέγω, ἔγειρε καὶ* ἄρας τὸ κλινίδιόν σου πορεύου εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου. 25 καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀναστὰς ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν, ἄρας ἐφ᾿ ὃ κατέκειτο, ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ δοξάζων τὸν θεόν. 26 καὶ ἔκστασις ἔλαβεν ἅπαντας καὶ ἐδόξαζον τὸν θεόν, καὶ ἐπλήσθησαν φόβου* λέγοντες ὅτι, Εἴδομεν παράδοξα σήμερον. |

1 And he embarked onto a boat and crossed over and came unto his own city. 2 And behold, they bore to him a paralytic cast upon a bed.* And when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic: Courage, child, your sins are forgiven. 3 And behold, certain ones of the scribes said amongst themselves: This man blasphemes. 4 And Jesus saw their thoughts and said: For what purpose are you thinking evil in your hearts? 5 For what is easier, to say: Your sins are forgiven, or to say: Rise and walk around? 6 But, in order that you might know that the son of man has authority upon the earth to forgive sins, then he says to the paralytic: Rise, take your bed and get on to your house. 7 And he rose and went away unto his house. 8 But when the crowds saw [this] they feared* and glorified God, who gives such authority to men. |
1 And he came again unto Capernaum after some days and it was heard that he was in the house. 2 And many were gathered together so that there was no longer room, not even by the door, and he spoke the word to them. 3 And they come bearing to him a paralytic carried by four men. 4 And, not being able to bring him in on account of the crowd, they removed the ceiling where he was and dug out and let down the mat where the paralytic was lying. 5 And when Jesus saw their faith he says to the paralytic: Child, your sins are forgiven. 6 But there were certain ones of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts: 7 Why does this man speak thus? He blasphemes. Who can forgive sins except only God? 8 And Jesus straightway knew in his spirit that thus they were reasoning amongst themselves and says to them: Why are you reasoning these things out in your hearts? 9 What is easier, to say to the paralytic: Your sins are forgiven, or to say: Rise and take your mat and walk around? 10 But, in order that you might know that the son of man has authority upon the earth to forgive sins, he says to the paralytic: 11 I say to you, rise, take your mat and get on to your house. 12 And he rose and straightway took his mat and went out before them all, so that all were ecstatic and glorified God, saying: We have never seen anything like this. |
17 And it happened on one of the days and he himself was teaching, and there were Pharisees and teachers of law sitting [there] who had come from every village of Galilee and of Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was [there] for him to heal. 18 And behold, men were bearing upon a bed* a man who was paralyzed, and they sought to bring him in and place him before him. 19 And, not finding any way to bring him in on account of the crowd, they went up on the roof, placing him down through the tiles with his little bed into the midst before Jesus. 20 And when he saw their faith he said: Man, your sins are forgiven you. 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying: Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins except God alone? 22 But Jesus knew their reasonings and answered and said to them: Why are you reasoning in your hearts? 23 What is easier, to say: Your sins are forgiven you, or to say: Rise and walk around? 24 But, in order that you might know that the son of man has authority upon the earth to forgive sins, he said to the paralyzed man: I say to you, rise and take your little bed and journey to your house. 25 And he immediately stood up before them, took that upon which he was lying, and went away unto his house, glorifying God. 26 And ecstasy took them all, and glorified God, and were full of fear,* saying: We have seen a miracle today. |

1 After these things there was a feast
of the Jews, and Jesus ascended
unto Jerusalem.
2 And there is in Jerusalem by the sheep
gate a pool which is called in Hebrew Bethzatha, having five porticoes.
3 In these lay a multitude of the sick,
the blind, the lame, the withered,
4 awaiting the movement of the water.
For at certain seasons an angel of the Lord washed in the pool and
stirred the water. The first to have walked in, therefore, after
the stirring of the water became healthy from whatever disease they
had.
5 But there was a certain
man there who had been for thirty-eight
years in his sickness.
6 When Jesus
saw this man lying down, and
knew that he
already had [been that way for] much time, he says to him:
Do you wish to become well?
7 The sick man answered him: Lord,
I do not have a man to cast me into the pool whenever the water
is stirred. But while I myself am coming another descends before me.
8 Jesus
says
to him: Rise,
take your mat
and walk around.
9 And
straightway the man became well, and he
took his mat and walked around. But it was the
sabbath on that day.
10 The Jews therefore said to the cured
man: It is the sabbath, and it is not allowed for you to take
your mat.
11 But he answered them: He who made
me well, that man said to me: Take your mat and walk around.
12 They asked him: Who is the man
who said to you: Take it and walk around?
13 But the healed man did not know who
it was, for Jesus had slipped away while a crowd was in the place.
14 After these things Jesus found him
in the temple and said to him: Behold, you have become well. Sin no
longer, so that nothing worse happens to you.
15 The man went away and announced to
the Jews that Jesus was the man who made him well.
16 And on account of this the Jews were
persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the
sabbath.
17 But Jesus answered
them: My father is working until now, and I myself am working.
18 On account of this therefore the
Jews were seeking rather to kill him, because he was not only
breaking the sabbath but also saying that God was his own
father, making himself equal to God.
19 Jesus therefore answered and said
to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, the son
can do nothing of himself unless it is what he sees the father doing.
For whatever that one does, these things likewise the son also does.
20 For the father loves the son and shows
him all things that he himself is doing, and works greater than
these he will show him, so that you might wonder.
21 For just as the father raises the
dead and makes them alive, so also the son makes alive whom he wishes.
22 For the father does not judge anyone,
but has given all judgment to the son,
23 so that all will honor the son just
as they honor the father. He who does not honor the son does not
honor the father who sent him.
24 Amen, amen, I say to you that he who
hears my word and has faith in him who sent me has the life of the
age, and he does not come into judgment but has transcended from
death into life.
25 Amen, amen, I say to you that an
hour is coming and now is when the dead will hear the voice of the
son of God, and those who have heard will live.
26 For, just as the father has life in
himself, so also he has given the son to have life in himself.
27 And he has given him authority
to do judgment, because he is the son of man.
28 Do not wonder at this, because an
hour comes in which all those in the tombs will hear his voice
29 and will journey forth, those who
did the good unto the resurrection of life, but those who practiced
evil things unto the resurrection of judgment.
30 I myself cannot do anything of myself.
I judge just as I hear, and my judgment is righteous, because I
seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
31 If I myself testify concerning
myself, my testimony is not true.
32 There is another who testifies
concerning me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies
concerning me is true.
33 You yourselves have sent to John,
and he has testified to the truth.
34 But I myself do not receive
testimony from man, but I say these things so that you might be
saved.
35 That man was the lamp which was
burning and appearing, and you yourselves were willing to rejoice
for an hour in his light.
36 But I
myself have a testimony greater than [that of] John. For the
works which the father has given me so that I might fulfill them,
the same works that I do, testify concerning me that the father
has sent me.
37 And the father who sent me, he has
testified concerning me. You have neither heard his voice at any
time nor seen his image,
38 and you do not have his word
remaining in you, because you yourselves do not have faith in him
whom he sent.
39 You search the scriptures,
because you yourselves think that in them you have the life of
the age; and these are they that testify concerning me.
40 And you do not wish to come
toward me that you might have life.
41 I do not receive
glory from men,
42 but I know you, that you do not have
the love of God in yourselves.
43 I myself have come in the name of
my father, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own
name, him you will receive.
44 How can you yourselves have faith,
while receiving glory from one another, and you do not seek the
glory which is from the only God?
45 Do not think that I myself will
accuse you before the father; he who accuses you is Moses, in whom
you have hoped.
46 For, if you had faith in Moses,
you would have had faith in me, for he wrote concerning me.
47 But if you do not have faith in
his writings, how will you have faith in my words?
