13 Go in through the narrow gate, because wide is the gate and broad the road which leads to destruction, and there are many who go in through it. 14 How narrow the gate and hard-pressed the road which leads to life, and there are few who find it. {7.22 Many will say to me on that day: Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and did we not cast out demons in your name, and did we not do many powers in your name? 7.23 And then I will confess to them: I never knew you; depart from me, you who work lawlessness.} {8.11 But I say to you that many will come from east and west and will recline with Abraham* and Isaac and Jacob* in the kingdom of the heavens. 8.12 But* the sons of the kingdom will be cast out* into the outer darkness. There shall be weeping and* gnashing of teeth there,.*} {20.16 Thus the last shall be first and the first last.} |
23 And someone said to him: Lord, is it only a few who are being saved? And he said toward them: 24 Strive to go in through the narrow door, because many, I say to you, will seek to go in and will not be strong enough. 25 From the time when the housemaster rises and closes the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock on the door, saying: Lord, open up to us, he will answer and say to you: I do not recognize you, whence you are. 26 Then you will begin to say: We ate and drank before you, and you taught in our plazas. 27 And he will say to you: I do not recognize you, whence you are; stand away from me, all workers of injustice. 28 There shall be weeping and* gnashing of teeth there,* when you see Abraham* and Isaac and Jacob* and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but* you yourselves cast out.* 29 And they will come from east and west and from north and south and will recline in the kingdom of God. 30 And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last. |
