24 No one can serve two lords; for either he will hate the one and love the other or he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. 25 On this account I say to you, do not be concerned for your soul, what you should eat or what you should drink, nor for your body, what you should wear. Is not the soul more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds* of heaven, that they neither sow nor harvest, nor do they gather into barns, and your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by being concerned can add one cubit to his lifespan? 28 And why are you concerned about clothing? Learn from the lilies of the field, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. 29 But I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory dressed as one of these. 30 But, if God so arrays the grass of the field, though it exists today and is cast into the furnace tomorrow, will he not do it much more for you, you of little faith? 31 Do not be concerned, then, saying: What will we eat? Or: What will we drink? Or: With what will we get dressed? 32 For the gentiles eagerly seek after all these things. For your heavenly father knows that you need all these things. 33 And seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Do not be concerned, then, for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be concerned with itself. The evil for each day is enough. |
{16.13 No houseservant can serve two lords; for either he will hate the one and love the other or he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.} 22 And he said toward his disciples: On this account I say to you, do not be concerned for the soul, what you should eat, nor for the body, what you should wear. 23 For the soul is more than food and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor harvest; there is no chamber or barn for them; and God feeds them. You are worth much more than the birds.* 25 And who of you by being concerned can add a cubit to his lifespan? 26 If therefore you cannot do even a little thing, why are you concerned about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither toil nor spin. But I say to you, not even Solomon in all his glory dressed as one of these. 28 But, if God so arrays the grass in the field, though it exists today and is cast into the furnace tomorrow, how much more he will do it for you, you of little faith. 29 And you, do not seek after what you should eat and what you should drink, and do not keep worrying. 30 For the gentiles of the world eagerly seek after all these things. But your father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things shall be added unto you. 32 Do not fear, little flock, because your father was pleased to give you the kingdom. |
