10 And the disciples came to him and said to him: Why do you speak to them in parables? 11 But he answered and said to them: To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to those it is not given. 12 For whoever has, to him it shall be given, and he will abound. But whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 For this reason I speak to them in parables, because while looking they do not look, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And for them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: With hearing you shall hear and not understand, and while looking you shall look and not see.* 15 For the heart of this people became dull, and with their ears they scarcely heard, and they shut their eyes lest they see with the eyes and hear with the ears and understand with the heart, and return and I heal them. |
10 And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 And he said to them: To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those outside all things are in parables.... {25 For he who has, to him it shall be given. And he who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.} 12 ...so that while looking they might look and not see,* and while hearing they might hear and not understand, lest they return and I forgive them. |
9 But his disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10a But he said: To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables.... {18 Look therefore how you listen. For he who has, to him it shall be given. And he who does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.} 10b ...so that while looking they might not look, and while hearing they might not understand. |

37 But though he had done so many signs
before them they did not put faith in him,
38 so that the word of
Isaiah the prophet might be
fulfilled which he
said: Lord, who had faith in our report?
And to whom was the arm of the Lord revealed?
39 For this reason they were unable to
have faith, because again Isaiah said:
40 He has blinded their
eyes and hardened their heart,
so that they might not
see with the eyes
and think with the heart and
return, and I heal
them.
41 These things Isaiah said because he
saw his glory and spoke about him.
42 Yet even so many from among the
rulers put faith in him, but on account of the Pharisees they
did not confess it so that that they might not be put out of the
synagogue.
43 For they loved the
glory of men rather than the glory of God.
