The various endings of Mark comprise a very
special case. 17 A, Ccorrected, W, ƒ1, ƒ13, and the Byzantine tradition have λαλησουσιν καιναις; Dsupplied and Θ have λαλησωσιν καιναις; C*, L, Δ, and Ψ have λαλησουσιν. 18 C, L, Δ, Ψ, and ~ƒ1 have και εν ταις χερσιν οφεις αρουσιν; A, Dsupplied, W, Θ, ƒ13, and the Byzantine tradition have οφεις αρουσιν. Lectionary 890 omits this phrase altogether. |

17 And these signs shall accompany those who have faith; in my name they shall cast out demons they shall speak in new tongues, 18 and in your hands they shall take up snakes, and if they drink anything deadly it will not harm them; they will place their hands on the sick and they will do well. |
17 And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying: Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name. 18 And he said to them: I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20 But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens. |

31 Now is the judgment of this world;
now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
32 And I, if I am exalted from the earth,
shall draw all men toward myself.
33 But he said this as a signal of what kind
of death he was going to die.
34 The crowd therefore answered him:
We have heard from the law that the Christ remains unto the age,
and how do you say that it is necessary for the son of man to be
exalted? Who is this son of man?
35 Jesus therefore said to them:
The light is among you for a little time still. Walk about while
you have the light, so that the darkness might not overtake you.
And the one walking about in the darkness does not know where he is
getting to.
36 While have the light, have faith in
the light, so that you might become sons of light. Jesus spoke these
things, and he went away and was hidden from them.
