17a Do not consider that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. {11.13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.} {11.12 And from the days of John the baptist until now the kingdom of the heavens is forced into, and forceful men are seizing it.} 17b I came not to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth go away, not one iota or one serif from the law will go away until all things happen. 19 Whoever, therefore, destroys one of the least of these commandments and teaches men thus, he shall be called least in the kingdom of the heavens. But whoever does and teaches them, this man shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens. 20 For I say to you that, unless your justice fully exceeds that of the scribes and of the Pharisees, you shall not go into the kingdom of the heavens. |
14 But the Pharisees, being lovers of coin, heard all these things and were scoffing at him. 15 And he said to them: You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts, because what is deemed highest among men is an abomination before God. 16 The law and the prophets were up till John; from then the kingdom of God is evangelized, and everyone forces his way into it. 17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to go away than for one serif of the law to fall. |
