15 But when it had become evening the disciples came up to him, saying: The place* is deserted,* and the hour is already past. Dismiss the crowds so that they may go away into the villages and buy* food* for themselves. 16 But Jesus said to them: They need not go away. You give them something to eat. 17 But they say to him: We have nothing except five breadloaves* and two fish. 18 But he said: Bring them here to me. 19 And he commanded the crowds to recline upon the grass, took the five breadloaves and the two fish, looked up into heaven, blessed them, and after breaking them gave the breadloaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the crowds. 20 And all ate and were satisfied. And they picked up* what was left over of the broken bread, twelve baskets full.* 21 But those who consumed were* about* five thousand men* apart from women and children. |
35 And when the hour had already become late his disciples came up to him and said: The place* is deserted,* and the hour is already late. 36 Dismiss them so that they may go away into the surrounding fields and villages and buy* something to eat for themselves. 37 But he answered and said to them: You give them something to eat. And they say to him: Shall we go away and buy breadloaves with two hundred denarii and give them something to eat? 38 But he says to them: How many breadloaves* do you have? Go, see. And when they knew they say: Five, and two fish. 39 And he ordered them all* to recline in symposia upon the green grass. 40 And they reposed in companies by hundred and by fifty. 41 And he took the five breadloaves and the two fish, looked up into heaven, blessed them, and broke the breadloaves and gave them to his disciples so as to place them before them. And they divided the two fish amongst all. 42 And all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they picked up* the broken bread, which filled* up twelve baskets, and from the fish. 44 And those who ate the breadloaves were* five thousand men.* |
12 But the day began to decline. And the twelve came up and said to him: Dismiss the crowd so that they may journey into the surrounding villages and fields and get lodging and find provisions, since we are here in a deserted* place.* 13 But he said toward them: You give them something to eat. But they said: There are no more than five breadloaves* and two fish, unless perhaps we journey and buy* food* for this entire people. 14 For there were* about* five thousand men.* But he said toward his disciples: Make them recline in groups of about fifty. 15 And they did so and all* reclined. 16 But he took the five breadloaves and the two fish, looked up into heaven, blessed them, and broke them and gave them to the disciples to place before the crowd. 17 And all ate and were satisfied. And what had been left over for them of the broken bread was picked up,* twelve baskets. |

32 But Jesus called over his disciples and said: I feel compassion for the crowd, because they have remained with me for three days already and do not have anything to eat. And I do not wish to dismiss them hungry lest they faint on the road. 33 And the disciples say to him: Whence is there enough bread to satisfy such a crowd in a deserted spot? 34 And Jesus says to them: How many breadloaves do you have? And they said: Seven, and* a few fish.* 35 And after he commanded the crowd to repose upon the ground 36 he took the seven breadloaves and the fish and gave thanks and broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples to the crowds. 37 And they all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken bread, seven baskets full. 38 And those who ate were four thousand men apart from women and children. 39 And after* he dismissed the crowds embarked onto the boat, and he came to the borders of Magadan. |
1 In those days, when there was again a great crowd and they had nothing to eat, he called over the disciples and says to them: 2 I feel compassion for the crowd, because they have remained with me for three days already and do not have anything to eat. 3 And, if I dismiss them hungry to their house, they will faint on the road. And some of them have come from a long distance. 4 And his disciples answered him: Whence can anyone satisfy them here with bread at a deserted spot? 5 And he replied to them: How many breadloaves do you have? And they said: Seven. 6 And he commanded the crowd to repose upon the ground, and took the seven breadloaves, gave thanks, and broke them and gave them to his disciples so that they might place them before the crowd, and they did so. 7 And* they had a few fish;* and after he blessed them he said to place them also. 8 And they ate and were satisfied, and they picked up seven baskets of broken bread left over. 9 And there were about four thousand. And he dismissed them. 10 And straightway after* he embarked onto the boat with his disciples, he came to the regions of Dalmanutha. |

3 But Jesus
went up onto the mountain, and there he sat down with
his disciples.
4 And it was near the Passover, the
feast of the Jews.
5 Jesus therefore lifted up his eyes and
saw that a great crowd was coming
toward him and says
toward Philip:
Whence shall we
buy bread
so that these people
may eat?
6 But he said this to test him, for he
himself knew what he was about to do.
7 Philip answered
him: Breadloaves
from two hundred denarii are not sufficient
that each might take a little.
8 One of his disciples, Andrew the
brother of Simon Peter, says to him:
9 There is a little child here who has
five barley
breadloaves and two cooked fish. But
what are these for such as they?
10 Jesus said:
Make the men repose.
And there was much grass
in the place.
The men therefore
reposed, about five
thousand in number.
11 Jesus therefore
took
the breadloaves and
gave thanks and gave
them out to those reclining,
and likewise from the cooked fish as much
as they wished.
12 And when they were filled he said
to his disciples: Gather together what
broken bread is
left over so that none is lost.
13 So they gathered it together,
and it brimmed twelve baskets of
broken bread from the five barley breadloaves which were left
over from those who had eaten.
14 When the men therefore saw the sign
that he had done, they said: This is truly the prophet who is
coming into the world.
15 Jesus therefore, since he knew that
they were about to come and snatch him to make him king, moved up
again onto the mountain by himself alone.
