22 And straightway he compelled the disciples to embark onto the boat and to proceed ahead of him* to the other shore, until he should release the crowds. 23 And he released the crowds and ascended onto the mountain by himself to pray. But, when it became evening, he* was there alone.* 24 But the boat already held at many stades away from the land, tormented by the waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 And at the fourth watch of the night he came toward them, walking upon the sea. 26 And the disciples saw him walking upon the sea and were terrified,* saying that it was a phantom, and they shouted out from fear. 27 And Jesus straightway spoke to them, saying: Take courage; it is I; do not fear. 28 And Peter answered him and said: Lord, if it is you, command me to come toward you upon the waters. 29 And he said: Come. And Peter descended from the boat and walked upon the waters and came toward Jesus. 30 But, seeing the strong wind, he became afraid, and as he began to sink down he shouted, saying: Lord, save me. 31 And Jesus straightway extended his hand and took hold of him and says to him: You of little faith, why did you doubt? 32 And, when they ascended into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 But those in the boat worshipped him, saying, Truly you are the son of God. |
45 And straightway he compelled his* disciples to embark onto the boat and to proceed ahead to the other shore, toward Bethsaida, until he himself released the crowd. 46 And he parted from them and went away onto the mountain to pray. 47 And, when it became evening, there was the boat in the middle of the sea, and he* himself alone* upon the land. 48 And seeing them tormented in their rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, around the fourth watch of the night he comes toward them, walking upon the sea; and he wished to go by them. 49 And they saw him walking upon the sea and supposed that it was a phantom, and they shouted out loud. 50 For they all saw him and were terrified.* And he straightway spoke with them and says to them: Take courage; it is I; do not fear. 51 And he ascended toward them into the boat, and the wind stopped. And they were very excessively astonished within themselves, 52 for they did not understand about the breadloaves, but rather their heart was hardened. |

16 But when
it became evening
his
disciples descended upon the sea,
17 and, embarking
onto a boat,
they were going to the shore of the sea,
unto Capernaum. And darkness had already come and Jesus had not yet
come toward them,
18 and the sea was
stirred up by a great wind that was blowing.
19 When they had gone, therefore, about
twenty-five or thirty stades they spotted Jesus
walking upon the sea and becoming near to the boat,
and they were afraid.
20 And
he says
to them: It is I; do not fear.
21 They were willing, therefore, to take him
into the boat, and straightway the boat came
upon the land to which
they had been proceeding.
