2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, since theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, since they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the gentle, since they themselves will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, since they themselves will be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, since they themselves will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the clean in heart, since they themselves will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, since they themselve will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of justice, since theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. 11 Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute and say every evil thing against you telling falsehoods on account of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, since your reward is great in the heavens. For thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you. |
20 And he himself lifted his eyes to his disciples and said: Blessed are the poor, since yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are those who hunger now, since you will be satisfied. Blessed are those who weep now, since you will laugh. 22 Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they ostracize and revile you and cast out your name as evil on account of the son of man. 23 Rejoice on that day and leap, For behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers did to the prophets. |
