10 And he was teaching in one
of the synagogues on the sabbaths.
11 And behold, a woman who had a
spirit of sickness for eighteen years, and she was bent double and could not
bend herself upright at all.
12 And Jesus saw her and summoned
and said to her: Woman, you have been loosed from your sickness.
13 And he placed his hands
upon her; and immediately she was straightened up, and she glorified God.
14 But the synagogue ruler,
indignant that Jesus had healed on the sabbath, answered and said to the crowd:
There are six days in which it is necessary to work; come and be healed in
those, therefore, and not on the day of the sabbath.
15 But the
Lord answered him and said:
Hypocrites, does not each of you on the sabbath loosen his
ox or ass from the stall and
lead him away to drink?
16 But was it not necessary for
this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound for, behold,
eighteen years, to be loosed from this chain on the day of the sabbath?
17 And as he said these things all
those opposing him were shamed, and the whole crowd rejoiced over all the
glorious things coming about by him. {14.5 And he said toward them: Among you, whose son or ox will fall into a well and you will not straightway draw him up on the day of the sabbath?} |
