57 But, when it was evening, there came a rich human from Arimathea* by the name of Joseph,* who himself also had become a disciple of Jesus. 58 This man came to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded it to be given him. 59 And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean shroud 60 and placed it in his own new tomb which was cut in the rock, and having rolled a large stone to the door of the tomb he went away. 61 And Mary the Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the sepulcher. |
42 And, when it was already evening, since it was the* preparation,* that is, before the sabbath,* 43 there came Joseph,* who was from Arimathea,* a seemly counselor, who himself also was waiting for the kingdom of God; he dared to come in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 But Pilate wondered if he had already died, and he called the centurion to him and questioned him as to whether he was already dead. 45 And when he found this out from the centurion he granted the corpse to Joseph. 46 And, having bought a shroud, he brought him down and wound him in a shroud and placed him in a tomb which had been cut from rock, and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary the Magdalene and Mary of Joses were seeing where he was placed. |
50 And behold, a man, Joseph* by name, being a counselor and a just and good man, 51 this man had not agreed with their counsel and act, from Arimathea,* a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God, 52 This man came to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 53 And he brought it down and wrapped it in a shroud and placed him in a hewn tomb where no one had yet been laid. 54 And it was the* day of preparation,* and the sabbath* was dawning. 55 And the women were following, those who had come with him from Galilee, and they saw the tomb and how his body was placed. 56 And they returned and prepared aromatic spices and perfumes. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment. |

38 But after these things
Joseph, who was
from Arimathea, being a disciple
of Jesus, but in secret on account of fear of the Jews, requested
Pilate that he might bring
the body of Jesus; and
Pilate permitted him.
He came therefore and brought his body.
39 And Nicodemus came also, the one who had
first come to him by night, bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloe, about
one hundred litras.
40 They therefore took
the body of Jesus and bound it in linens with the
aromatic spices, just as is the
sepulchral custom of the Jews.
41 And in the place where he was crucified there
was a garden, and in the garden a new
tomb in which no one had
yet been placed.
42 So they placed
Jesus there on account of the
preparation of the Jews, since the tomb was nearby.
