67 And Zechariah his
father was filled with the holy spirit, and he prophesied, saying:
68 Blessed is the Lord God
of Israel, because he visited us and made redemption for his people
69 and raised a horn of
salvation for us in the house of David his child,
70 just as he spoke
through the mouth of his holy prophets from the age,
71 salvation from our
enemies and from the hand of all who hate us,
72 to make mercy with
our fathers and to remember his holy testament,
73 the oath which he
swore toward Abraham our father, to give us
74 that we should
fearlessly be rescued from the hand of enemies and serve him
75 in holiness and
justice before him all our days.
76 But you also, child,
will be called prophet of the most high, for you shall journey before
the Lord to make ready his roads,
77 to give his people
the knowledge of salvation in the forgiveness of their sins,
78 on account of the
compassionate mercy of our God, in which the east from on high shall
visit us,
79 to appear to those
who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to straighten our feet
into the path of peace.
80 And the child grew
and became strong in spirit, and he was in the deserts until the day
of his showing forth toward Israel.
