Synoptic code-switching.Select your own markup format to display synopses. My synoptic project uses a combination of Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript to enable the visitor to choose from a menu of synoptic coding options. Simply click on the scheme of your choice in the list below and watch the synoptic text change accordingly. You may also choose between two modes, view and print. Click on the word view to change the page to print mode, then click on the word print (which will take the place of the view) to return to view mode. Code-switching will
not work with your browser, as it does not support JavaScript.

Matthew 26.67-68. | Mark 14.65. | Luke 22.63-65. |
---|---|---|
67 Then they spat upon his face and buffeted him, and others slapped* him, 68 saying: Prophesy unto us, Christ! Who is it who hit you? |
65 And some began to spit upon him and to blindfold his face and to buffet him and to say to him: Prophesy! And the attendants struck him with their palms.* |
63 And the men who held him mocked him, smiting him, 64 and having blindfolded him they asked him, saying: Prophesy! Who is it who hit you? 65 And they spoke to him with many other blasphemies. |
The sample text is the buffeting (or smiting) of Jesus. I highly recommend choosing print mode and the blank scheme, printing the synopsis out, and coding the text by hand with the scheme of your choice in order to best grasp the nature of the synoptic problem for each set of parallel passages. |
